Getting through grief is hard.

Going through it alone is even harder.

Receive the support you need to achieve healing from past or present losses with The Grief Recovery Method (GRM). The GRM is a gentle, evidence-based action program to facilitate recovery from the complicated emotional experience of life after loss.

Are you experiencing any of the following?

  • Difficulty with focus or concentration

  • A lack of energy

  • Persistent anger

  • Self-isolation from friends and family

  • Depression or anxiety

These symptoms can all come to the surface as a normal part of the emotional response to grief. The symptoms of grief are revealed in many forms, and the process of grief is a highly personal experience depending on the situation and the individual. It’s ok to acknowledge that you’re hurting. And it’s ok to seek help when you feel overwhelmed by the waves of grief washing over you.

My goal is to help you realize that you don’t need to live in constant pain and fear any longer. The Grief Recovery Method (GRM) can help the clouds break away, while letting the sun shine on a brighter tomorrow. A tomorrow that is full of the happiness and joy you deserve, as you move from suffering to strength.

Grief is a Universal Response

Grief is an inevitable part of the human experience, and all of us have experienced grief throughout our lives. It is the normal and universal response to tragedy, loss, heartbreak, or trauma, and there are many challenging life circumstances that can trigger intense feelings of grief.  But most of us are not prepared to effectively handle, manage, or recover from the emotional impacts which result from life-altering change and loss.  We learn ineffective tools for dealing with grief from our parents, key family members, teachers, clergy, counselors, and even social media. We may even be taught to suppress our grief, believing we should simply press on with our head held high. However, cracks soon begin to form under the surface, threatening to reveal feelings that have been pushed aside for days, months, or even years.

There is a way to find happiness once again, while also recognizing your emotions and allowing yourself grace to recover at your own pace.  The Grief Recovery Method offers evidence-based, time-tested strategies that teaches us the proper tools to effectively recover from loss, grief, and heartbreak, without letting these feelings fill the rest of our days with pain and suffering.

How does the Grief Recovery Method Help Achieve Healing?

The GRM is a method built upon an intentional step-by-step process in which small, actionable steps create a lasting impact. It is a true “action program” that both unlocks and respects the emotional experience of our grief, whether it is defined by immediate grief issues or those that  have been holding us captive for years.  It introduces new tools and coping strategies that can be applied to any personal loss, including loss of a loved one, health challenges, divorce, mental health issues, or trauma. During every stage of the process, the griever is respected and heard without judgement or analysis, while receiving unconditional support in identifying and giving voice to the range of emotions that accompany the full extent of the loss.

How is the GRM process different from other grief support programs?

  • Action-based

Small and manageable steps toward recovery serve as the foundation of the Grief Recovery Method. Inner healing and grief recovery is achieved through a proven plan of action outlined in “The Grief Recovery Handbook”, which includes supplemental reading and writing assignments along the journey.

  • Shared for over 40 years

The GRM has been shared by grievers for over 40 years, and “The Grief Recovery Handbook” has been translated into over 20 languages. It has stood the test of time as a powerful approach to healing for those suffering from the stronghold imposed by grief.

  • Time-limited

The Grief Recovery Method is comprised of a set number of sessions. Group formats can be either 8 weeks or 12 weeks long, while one-on-one formats are 7 weeks in length. Working toward a set goal in a pre-established timeframe allows for a focused mindset toward achieving successful grief recovery.

  • Facilitated by a Grief Recovery Specialist

Each GRM Specialist is trained and certified by the Grief Recovery Institute to deliver the tools and coping strategies that inspire healing through the GRM. Each Specialist is warm and compassionate, with a deep desire to help those who are grieving.

  • Evidence-based

The GRM is an Evidence Based program, having documented statistically significant improvements in grievers’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to grief. Research-driven studies have shown the consistently positive impact that the GRM has on the lives of those who are suffering from grief.

  • Group or One-on-One Formats

The Grief Recovery Method is offered in both Group and One-on-One formats. The Group format is not a “drop-in” group, meaning that those who participate are there for each session throughout the program duration. Closed groups allow grievers to build a sense of safety, camaraderie, and trust with their fellow group members.

I would be honored to walk this healing journey with you

As an Advanced Grief Recovery Method Specialist and a Certified Life Coach, my passion lies in helping my clients release painful memories or unrealized dreams, and begin the grief recovery process to heal their mind, body, and spirit. I knew I wanted to deliver my clients the help they needed to overcome their overwhelming feelings of grief, so I began to educate myself about grief recovery. When a fellow coach introduced me to the “Grief Recovery Handbook”, I immediately understood the power that the GRM has to change lives for the better.

To say that the book was eye-opening is an understatement. It gave me insights into the grief recovery process that I had never encountered before, and it completely changed the way I view loss and grief.

I immediately signed up for Grief Recovery Method Specialist training. After completing the program, I was proud to become a part of the GRM community, which is led by compassion, empathy, and purpose-driven support for those who are hurting.

My greatest desire is to bring light, healing, hope, and happiness back into the lives of each of my clients. With a gentle and loving approach to grief recovery, I am a companion on your journey, a compassionate shoulder to lean on, and a trusted hand to provide guidance forward.

I have a true passion for helping individuals who are hurting, hopeless, lost, or lonely. It would be my honor to support you through the grief recovery process, as we begin the journey to inner healing together.

  • Group Based

In the GRM online support groups, grievers are brought together by loss and bonded by healing. Led by a Grief Recovery Specialist who is trained and certified by the Grief Recovery Institute, a safe and confidential environment is created to facilitate effective, lasting, and evidence-based action, along with successful healing and recovery.

  • One On One

Sometimes, individuals feel that they would prefer undivided counseling support to work through their personal grief. The One-on-One online program is specially designed for those who prefer to work face-to-face with a trained and certified Grief Recovery Specialist in a one-on-one setting, rather than a group setting. This 7-week meeting format utilizes the same proven materials as the group programs, but in a more private and individualized environment.

Testimonials

  • After completing the Grief Recovery Method facilitated by Sandy Engbretson, I seem to have that bit of introspection that takes the edge off when thinking about relationships that have left me in knots. I see the complicity of my own expectations in past situations and am tending to let the strong feelings go. I am calmer. Between the Grief Recovery Method and meditation, I have some calmness now that I know I didn't have before.

    Kim

  • I have gained an enormous amount of knowledge and insight from completing the Grief Recovery Method. I have a new perspective on my relationships and feel this program enriched my life greatly.

    Donna

  • After completing the Grief Recovery Method on my relationship with my Dad, I’ve noticed a shift in my relationship to my Mom. Having spent time with her this summer, I don’t have the same resentments/anger that I had before participating in the Grief Recovery Method. I find myself able to recall/identify past events that needed attention and make the required amends/forgiveness on paper. It has been very freeing and I am not going to our visits now or talking to her on the phone with a chip on my shoulder and frustration in my voice.
